Adidas Waseda Futures Tennis Tournament first took place in 2007 commemorating
the 125th anniversary of our university. Although it was canceled last
year due to the earthquake that hit northeastern Japan, we, thanks to the
support of many, are able to host our tournament for the 5th time this
year. ITF has hailed our tournament as a "hand-made tournament"
as we have the support of many local tennis fans and is run by a group
effort of the student athletes and the graduates of Waseda Tennis Team.
I am extremely pleased to see the top collegiate players from Japan as
well as promising young players from all over the world gather at Waseda
courts. Furthermore, it is gratifying to see our objective of achieving
a higher level of play as well as providing a gateway to the international
stage realized.
This type of a tournament is very important for international exchange for
our university as well. It is my hope that this year's event will have many
young players from Japan and the rest of the world seeking to compete among the
top and that it will serve its purpose in providing meaningful
competition.
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our main sponsor, Adidas
Japan as well as to all other sponsors and supporters for their generous
support.

Tournament Director, adidas-Waseda University Futures Tournament
Toshihisa Tsuchihashi
Thank you very much for joining us at Adidas Waseda Futures Tennis Tournament
2012. All of Japan was saddened by the unprecedented disaster last year.
Since the cancellation of last year's Waseda Futures, we have been focusing
our attention to find out what we can do in the face of such devastation. We have felt that we will best serve our community by trying our best to
prepare for and host the event we had to cancel last year.
This tournament provides the members of our tennis team a rare opportunity to be exposed to world-level tennis and to experience what it is to organize and run a tournament.Among the players who have played at this event in the past, there are
those who are currently competing at Grand Slams - a testimony to the fact that
this tournament has served and serves as a gateway to the top. There will be
many talented players from Japan as well as the rest of the world and we expect
to see many exciting matches. It is my hope that many of them will launch their
careers as tennis players from these courts at Waseda and someday find
themselves on the courts of Grand Slam events.
I would like to thank Adidas Japan and all other sponsors and supporters
for your generous support.
